What’s happening in Term 5:

Here is our curriculum map for 2017/18.

 

Year 4 finish the year investigating Anglo Saxons; they will learn about specific events and where these fit in on a timeline. The children will investigate aspects of Anglo Saxon life including where they came from and settled, village life and looking at the structures of their homes.

In art, the children will be exploring and trying weaving. They will compare and evaluate different materials for their usefulness to the Anglo Saxons. In DT the children will design, make and evaluate their very own Anglo Saxon house which they will test for its structural stability.

The children will be reading a range of books which will inform their writing during English. They will learn a range of new skills in spelling, punctuation and grammar lessons. In maths, children will learn about multiplication and division, geometry, data handling, money and time. They will know how to multiply and divide a 3 digit number by a 1 or 2 digit number, solve problems involving multiplication and division and to read, understand and solve problems from a graph. They will explore larger decimals before solving money and time problems.

Year 4 will continue to develop their role as scientists and investigate animal habitats and also look in ore details at animals including humans. They will explore the local area, thinking about what animals need to survive. They will find out about human and animal bodies and how we are similar and different in our needs. .

In French, they will be learning all about food which will include how to ask for food out and about in France. In RE, the children will be looking at how art and music is important to different religions and how they show their beliefs through this. . Children in year 4 will be keeping fit in PE by learning new skills in athletics and rounders.

With the introduction of a new National Curriculum, Westbury Leigh CE Primary School has created an engaging, challenging and stimulating curriculum which provides a range of immersive opportunities to learn for all of its children. It is underpinned by our School's vision and has our School values at its core. Children use a wide range of ICT, laptops and devices alongside interactive whiteboards in each classroom. Our exciting topics have entry and exit points to begin and finish the topics being taught together with establishing links within our community.
Connections are made between curriculum areas making the learning more relevant and meaningful for our children.
