What’s happening in Term 1:
Here is our curriculum map for 2017/18.
This term year 5 are exploring life in Anglo Saxon/Viking Britain which we are starting with an Anglo Saxon day. We are considering local Anglo Saxon life, looking particularly at the Battle of Ethandune, as well as the succession of Anglo Saxon kings up to the Battle of Hastings. Our DT and art will also reflect our history topic.
In science we are considering the properties and changes of materials, which will culminate in baking to explore revisable and irreversible change. In physical education we are working on a range of sports including cross country and swimming in term 1.
We continue to work hard at our maths and English every day. We will continue to regularly complete extended pieces of writing linked to our Anglo Saxon Topic and will develop spellings through the scheme ‘No Nonsense Spelling’. Reading skills will be developed through the class text ‘Beowulf’ and there will be daily opportunities for reading for pleasure as well as x tables in the shape of TT RockStars.
With the introduction of a new National Curriculum, Westbury Leigh CE Primary School has created an engaging, challenging and stimulating curriculum which provides a range of immersive opportunities to learn for all of its children. It is underpinned by our School's vision and has our School values at its core. Children use a wide range of ICT, laptops and devices alongside interactive whiteboards in each classroom. Our exciting topics have entry and exit points to begin and finish the topics being taught together with establishing links within our community.
Connections are made between curriculum areas making the learning more relevant and meaningful for our children.
