At Westbury Leigh, children enjoy quality music lessons with musical sound as the dominant language. Lessons follow the Music Express scheme where children listen to music; sing; play tuned and un-tuned percussion instruments and participate in group music making activities to their parents and peers.
Assemblies and Music Festivals
Children have performance opportunities throughout the year in assemblies and concerts at school and in the wider community.
Singing is central to school life with weekly Key Stage 1 and 2 singing assemblies. We stage an annual Music Festival where children who are learning an instrument are given the opportunity to perform for an invited audience and visiting professionals leading workshops and concerts.
Progression routes are available for those children who want to develop their musical skills further. Our extra-curricular opportunities are open to all. Children are encouraged to join Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 choirs that perform regularly at events in Westbury. Rehearsals take place weekly.
Visiting instrumental teachers teach violin, guitar and keyboard. Children can attend lessons from Year 2. Places are subject to availability and Application Forms are available from the School Office. A waiting list system is in operation.
