Starting school for the first time

As a school, we understand that starting school for the first time can be challenging for some children. We pride ourselves on providing a smooth transition into school,  from local nurseries and for those who have not previously attended nursery school.

During Summer Term our Reception Team Leader visits each of the local nurseries to discuss the transition. This is followed by  our team undertaking  home visits for each child registered to attend our school.

In September, new pupils are divided into two groups; children attend either a morning or afternoon session during the first 2 weeks which allows children to settle in gradually, allowing children and staff to spend quality time getting to know each other in smaller groups.  All children will attend school full time from the start of Week 3

Transition to Secondary School

When Year Six pupils near the end of their time at our school we start to plan their transition to secondary school, giving children the opportunity to visit their chosen school and completing activities in preparation for this new start.

Where further support is needed, we can tailor a more bespoke plan in consultation with parents and the secondary school. Please look at our Transition Policy for key information.

We feed into both Matravers in Westbury and Kingdown in Warminster.
