Starting school for the first time

As a school, we understand that starting school for the first time can be challenging for some children. We pride ourselves on providing a smooth transition into school,  from local nurseries and for those who have not previously attended nursery school.

During Summer Term our Reception Team Leader visits each of the local nurseries to discuss the transition. This is followed by a number of settling in/ welcome events  heldat our school before our team undertake home visits for each child registered to attend our school in the first few weeks of September.

In September, new pupils are divided into two groups; children attend either a morning or afternoon session during the first 2 weeks which allows children to settle in gradually, allowing children and staff to spend quality time getting to know each other in smaller groups.  All children will attend school full time from the start of Week 3.

Please read the `School Readiness` leaflet which offers top tips for starting school.

Our School Day

Our school day begins when the gates open for parents at 8:40am. Children should be promptly in class by 8:50am. At 9:00am the school gates close for registration. If for some reason you arrive after 9:00am, please bring your child through the main entrance so that they can be signed in and join their class.

At the end of the day the school gates will be open at 3:00pm for parents to pick up their child(ren). The gates will be locked at 3:30pm.

Any children who can't find the person picking them up will be taken to the main entrance and will be sat on the blue chairs just inside the school building.

All children participating in after school clubs which finish outside these hours will be brought through the main entrance by the teacher running the club for collection.

Transition to Secondary School

When Year Six pupils near the end of their time at our school we start to plan their transition to secondary school, giving children the opportunity to visit their chosen school and completing activities in preparation for this new start.

Where further support is needed, we can tailor a more bespoke plan in consultation with parents and the secondary school. Please contact the school office to make an appointment with Mrs Jones.

We feed into both Matravers in Westbury and Kingdown in Warminster. Click on the school to find out more information on each of their primary transition programmes.
