Music
Music is important at Westbury Leigh Primary aiming to raise the cultural capital among our pupils by immersing them in a rich and diverse environment of global and historical pieces. Music will help develop children’s coordination and rhythm as well as refining gross and fine motor skills through practical exploration where we aim to deliver practical music lessons. Our curriculum covers a wide variety of genres including: pop, jazz, blues and rock. We also focus in on composers and musicians from a diverse range of ethnic backgrounds encouraging children to think critically about musical pieces, both their own and others. Our hope is that all children will develop their self-confidence through the exploration of music and gain the ability to both create and perform.
The Inter-related dimensions of music is an overarching strand which runs throughout our Kapow scheme of work. Sometimes known as the elements of music, these are the building blocks of music and therefore run throughout our schemes of work as an overarching strand.
The inter-related dimensions of music are:
- Pitch
- Duration
- Dynamics
- Tempo
- Timbre
- Texture
- Structure
- Appropriate
